Printed on hard plastic, 250 editions 8x5cm 2014
This business card serves as both a functional item and a thought-provoking art project, conceived for the UNFAIR exhibition hosted at NDSM from September 17-21, 2014. Crafted as an imitation of the official residency permit required by the Immigration Office for residing and working in Europe, this card challenges conventional perceptions and highlights the complexities of immigration and documentation.
A limited edition of 250 copies was meticulously produced, each card meticulously designed to mimic the appearance of an official residency permit. During the exhibition, the initial 100 editions were made available for purchase. However, what makes these business cards truly distinctive is the implicit agreement attached to their usage.
Beyond its practical function, this art project challenges viewers and users alike to consider the broader implications of residency, documentation, and the inherent conditions tied to the privilege of living and working in a foreign land. It transforms a seemingly ordinary item into a catalyst for reflection on societal norms and the intricacies of immigration systems. By intertwining art with practicality, this business card becomes a conversation starter, encouraging dialogue about the multifaceted nature of identity and belonging in a globalized world.
